Almost ten years after its first publication, Incompiuto — described by the authors as “the most important architectural style in Italy since the Second World War” — has assumed growing cultural significance in debates about the architectural landscape in Italy.
The book presents the first and only systematic investigation — the result of more than fifteen years of field research — into a widely discussed yet not fully recognised phenomenon: the pervasive presence across Italy of buildings and infrastructures whose construction was never completed.
The new edition updates and broadens the account with additional visual material, an essay on the current state of the phenomenon, and a revised catalogue of unfinished works.
Incompiuto remains an invitation to look anew at our surroundings, recognising in the absence of completion a potential grammar of the present.
